KUALA LUMPUR: The Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Seri Rina Harun, who is facing bankruptcy, did not attend the summons hearing of the debtor filed against him in the High Court of this country.

His lawyer, Husain Mohd Razak, told reporters that his client was unable to attend the proceedings before the Deputy High Court Clerk, Farah Shuhada Ramli, due to personal matters.

The court then set October 22 for another case management at the judgment debtor’s summons hearing.

“God willing, my client will attend. We can solve this problem as soon as possible. Unfortunately, today he has an emergency that he could not avoid,” Husain said on Wednesday (September 9).

Lawyer Mark Ho, who represents French production company Sarl Novovision, said Rina had proposed settlement terms with her client, but could not disclose the terms.

“I am sorry, but I do not have the freedom to reveal anything about it pending the legal proceedings.

“However, today the minister has delivered checks as payment in installments and on that basis, the court granted a new date for the summons of the debtor of the judgment,” he said.

A judgment debtor summons is a summons issued by the court that will serve the judgment debtor to compel the person to appear in court to provide information about their assets and how they can dispose of them to settle the judgment debt.

On Tuesday (September 8), The star reported that Rina, through her now defunct companies Eurofine (M) Sdn Bhd, Fine Mobile Network Sdn Bhd, and Fine TV Network Sdn Bhd, had purchased several million ringgit worth of comedy shows and documentaries from the production company based in Paris between 2011 and 2013.

The companies were closed between December 2013 and August 2015.

In May 2014, Rina and another company director, Ida Rahayu Md Noor, signed a guarantee agreement with Sarl Novovision whereby they would personally and jointly assume all the responsibilities of the companies.

In April last year, both parties entered a consent judgment after Rina, who is also the head of the women’s wing of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, did not resolve the amount in dispute.
