KUALA LUMPUR: RHB Banking Group has appointed Dr. Chong Han Hwee as Group Chief Risk Officer effective September 28.

Armed with more than 17 years of experience in risk management practices, Chong will replace Patrick Ho, who will retire as the group’s chief risk officer on September 30, RHB said in a statement Tuesday.

Prior to joining RHB, he was a partner at EY Malaysia where he led the financial services risk management function, managing a team of 60 consultants.

Chong was responsible for establishing EY’s risk management practice, which has grown during

years to become Malaysia’s largest risk consulting practice.

His exposure to risk management practices in Australia, Asia and the Middle East has enabled him to gain the experience necessary to combine sophisticated quantitative skills and analytical instincts to design and implement initiatives that create significant business value.

Chong graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce in Economics and Finance from Curtin University of Technology, Australia and earned a Ph.D. in Economics from Curtin University (formerly Curtin University of Technology), Australia.

“Chong is a strong addition to our group management team. She will oversee the general risk management functions of the group, including the effective management of risk management of the entire group in credit, technology, operations, market and sharia.

“As a risk management specialist, Chong will also be responsible for improving risk management standards in all areas of the Group,” said Group Managing Director Datuk Khairussaleh Ramli.
