Retired officer charged with corruption

KUALA LUMPUR: Three men, including a high-ranking retired army officer, from the Ministry of Defense (Mindef) have been indicted in a Court of Sessions here for corruption involving more than half a million ringgit in connection with a contract of maintenance linked to the ministry.

Lieutenant Kol. Che Ahmad Idris, 54 years old; Brig Jen Mohammed Feizol Anuar Ayob, 50, and Lieutenant Jen (R) Datuk Sheikh Mokhsin Sheikh Hassan, 59, pleaded not guilty after all their charges were read, separately, before Session Court Judge Sabariah Othman yesterday.

Che Ahmad, who is the chief of strategic cyber warfare, was slapped with five counts of bribery.

He was charged with one count of requesting RM500,000 and a second count of agreeing with the sum of the FEHM Entity Sdn Bhd Managing Director, Elias Jemadi Tajudin, as an incentive for him to recommend to FEHM Entity that he be appointed for the maintenance of the ministry intelligence system. through direct negotiations.

From the third to the fifth count, Che Ahmad allegedly received RM50,000, RM30,000 and RM25,000 from Elias, for the same purpose.

The crimes were allegedly committed between September 2019 and April 7.

Feizol, who was charged in his then capacity as a military adviser to the Defense Minister, also faces five charges of his own.

He was accused of corruptly receiving RM10,000, RM50,000, RM30,000, RM20,000, and RM18,000 from Elias between October 30, 2009 and June 24.

The money was said to be an incentive for Feizol to deliver a letter of intent dated September 5, 2018 from the FEHM entity to Mindef on a strategic partnership for the maintenance of the ministry’s intelligence system.

The former director general of defense intelligence, Sheikh Mokhsin, was charged with seven counts of corruption.

For the first and second positions, he allegedly requested and corruptly agreed to receive RM1mil from Elias as an incentive to approve the recommendation that the FEHM entity be appointed through direct negotiations for the maintenance of the intelligence system.

From the third to the sixth count, Sheikh Mokhsin allegedly corruptly received 70,000, 26,000, 100,000 and 70,000 ringgit from Elias for the same purpose.

All the crimes were allegedly committed in the Havana Club of the Hotel Concorde, an office of Mindef and HairDoc Medical Publika between June 20, 2019 and June 5.

Unrelated to the other charges, Sheikh Mokhsin also faces a seventh charge in which he allegedly received RM50,000 from a Syed Omar Syed Mohamad as a reward for appointing Malvus Sense Sdn Bhd for the procurement, supply, delivery, training and certification of a system. in Mindef.

The crime was allegedly committed in Mindef at 2.30 p.m. on June 26.

The court set bail of RM80,000 on a guarantee for Che Ahmad, RM60,000 for Feizol and RM110,000 for Sheikh Mokhsin, and also ordered them to surrender their passports.

The case is set for mention on November 27.
