Liverpool has been in talks with Stoke City about a possible Jack Butland move, according to a Sunday Mirror report (11/10; page 76).

The Reds are looking to strengthen their goalkeeping ranks before the transfer window closes completely on Friday. Jurgen Klopp’s men conceded seven in their last match before the international break.

The shock loss at Villa Park has raised questions about Adrian’s ability to intervene in Alisson’s absence. The Brazilian is reportedly on leave for six weeks due to injury.

And that has led Liverpool to look at Butland. According to the Sunday Mirror (11/10; page 76), talks between the two clubs are underway.

It should be noted that Butland is in the final year of his contract with the Potters. He is also said to be one of the top earners.

Interestingly, the Sunday Mirror adds that Butland could make his Merseyside derby debut. So it looks like the 27-year-old won’t have time to settle in at Anfield if he completes a move.

TBR view: Butland could be an inspired addition with low expectations probably

Liverpool don’t have many places to go if they want a new goalkeeper right now. Then you could understand why Butland is supposedly on his radar.

It shouldn’t cost a great deal. Unfortunately, he is in disgrace in Stoke. And it seems that they would appreciate the opportunity to transfer him because of his salary.

He had previously shown that he had enormous potential. Butland is international with England. And, as the Mirror points out, he was talked about as a potential £ 30 million-rated cap when Stoke was relegated and clubs were spinning.

Expectations will be low for the goalkeeper. But if Klopp can regain his confidence, it could be a great deal as the Reds look to move cover for Alisson.
