PUTRAJAYA: Expats and professional visiting pass holders from the 23 countries included in Malaysia’s forced entry ban list can now enter the country.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said a special cabinet committee had decided to slightly relax the regulation applied on September 7.

“However, expatriates and holders of professional visiting passes will need to obtain approval from the Immigration Department before they can enter the country.

“Your application must be accompanied by a letter of support from the Malaysian Investment Development Authorities or related agencies,” it said on Thursday (September 10).

The government has also decided to allow permanent residents, as well as foreign spouses of Malaysian citizens, to enter Malaysia as long as it is a one-way trip and they stay here.

Student pass holders from affected countries will also be able to enter Malaysia.

“All the aforementioned categories must get immigration approval beforehand,” he said.

Ismail said that Immigration would not accept new applications for student passes.

The entry ban, which took effect on September 7, was imposed as all 23 countries had registered a high number of Covid-19 cases.

It is about the United States, Brazil, India, Russia, Peru, Colombia, South Africa, Mexico, Spain, Argentina, Chile, Iran, Bangladesh, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, France, Turkey, Italy, Germany, Iraq, the Philippines and Indonesia.
