PETALING JAYA: Umno Supreme Council Member Mohd Puad Zarkashi asked MPs to reject the budget at the committee stage for the following ministries, saying they were “misled” by the Provident Fund’s i-Sinar scheme for Employees (EPF).
This follows EPF’s announcement of the conditions and requirements for applicants to be eligible for the program.
In a Facebook post, Puad said Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin did not follow through on his promise and claimed that MPs were tricked into supporting the budget on the political stage last week.
“I have read people’s comments on many WhatsApp groups and Facebook pages, including Najib Razak’s.
“They are clearly angry so just reject the budget at the committee stage for other ministries like housing and local government and the communications and multimedia ministries,” he told MPs.
“Parliament will end on December 17. People want Parliament to function defending their livelihood.”
EPF announced that only certain people would be allowed to make withdrawals under i-Sinar, including workers who have not contributed to EPF for at least two months and those who had suffered a minimum 30% reduction in their basic salary since March.
A second category of members whose total income has dropped by at least 30% since March are also eligible, but must show supporting documents to verify this.
Najib yesterday urged Putrajaya not to set any conditions for the plan, saying that some of the requirements were illogical and made things more difficult for people.
Najib, who is also the head of support for Barisan Nasional (BN), previously said that BN would only support the budget if Putrajaya extends the loan moratorium for six months and allows taxpayers to make a one-time withdrawal of RM10,000 from their Account. EPF 1.
