PETALING JAYA: Malaysians should protect and promote the basic principles of the Federal Constitution that stipulate Islam as the religion of the federation and guarantee freedom of worship for non-Muslims, DAP Secretary General Lim Guan Eng said today.
“All Malaysians should reject attempts by irresponsible elements to divide us by stigmatizing Malaysians on the basis of race or religion.
“The constitution unites us all by establishing our rights and obligations. Malaysians are stronger together by respecting our differences and supporting the rights and obligations of others, ”he said in a special message in conjunction with Easter celebrations this weekend.
Lim, who is also a deputy from Bagan, said that this respect is the basis for peace and harmony in our society. The unit shown is also the platform for the economic prosperity of Malaysians and their children.
In this context, he said a suggestion by a PAS minister to secure a two-thirds parliamentary majority for Gerrymander constituencies favoring Malays and Muslims should be opposed.
“The manipulation of electoral districts with religious or racial prejudices is unconstitutional. This is no different from the racial or religious apartheid that would change Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak to a mutant variant, ”he said.
Lim said he was concerned that these views were shared by the leaders of the current government.
Last month, the minister of plantation and commodity industries, Khairuddin Aman Razali, said that the Islamist party aims to win a two-thirds majority in the upcoming general election with the help of its allies to redraw electoral boundaries. in a way that benefits Muslims.
He said that the three Malaysian parties, PAS, PPBM and Umno, must work together to achieve this goal.
