The 2020 K-Culture Festival has confirmed that Red Velvet will not be holding their fan meeting this weekend.

The festival takes place online from October 10 to November 29 and is organized by the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Red Velvet was scheduled to hold a fan meeting via YouTube live broadcast on October 24 as Global Hallyu Ambassadors for the festival.

An October 23 Herald Pop report stated that Red Velvet had notified organizers of their intention not to attend. A source from the festival later stated that they were discussing the event.

On the evening of that day, 2020 K-Culture Festival posted on their Instagram with the caption, “Red Velvet’s online fan meeting scheduled for October 24 was canceled due to the artist’s circumstances. We ask for your understanding. Thank you.”

This week a controversy broke out over the allegations made about the behavior and attitude of Red Velvet member Irene. After an editor and stylist accused Irene of making her cry with his harsh words, Irene met with her to apologize and issued a statement of apology on October 22.
