“We are not talking about someone who comes as a substitute, we are talking about an elite player who has won a lot of trophies and can really make a big difference on the field. It fits the type of player you want Liverpool to recruit.
“Midfield is an area where Klopp rotates regularly and with the schedule the way it is, the more options we have the better.”
Speaking of his new midfielder, Klopp tipped Thiago to bring a number of attributes to his current midfield.
“It can demand rhythm, that’s right,” Klopp said.
“Obviously he can create and use space for other players, all these kinds of things. The first touch is incredible; the vision is incredible; the passing is pretty good!”
“But he’s also fast. Good pace of work. His numbers were absolutely special last year in Germany too, most of the steals, ball recoveries and all these kinds of things, most of the passes.”
“But we don’t play like Bayern so it will still need some time to settle down and no one should wait, and I don’t expect, the special things right away, the first game, let’s see. It’s a long-term project and we have a good team, so we can give time.
“But of course we want to use it in the field, that’s clear. So the work can start now.”
