The Rangers are 19 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table with a vital 1-0 victory over fierce rivals Celtic in the Old Firm derby at Ibrox on Saturday.
Callum McGregor’s own goal in the 70th minute from a corner marked the difference against Celtic, who were reduced to ten men when Nir Bitton was sent off in the 62nd minute for dragging Alfredo Morelos when the Colombian international scored the goal .
The result does little to ease the pressure on Celtic boss Neil Lennon, and the Scottish Premiership title is likely to end up in the hands of fierce rivals Glasgow for the first time since 2011.
Celtic started the game brilliantly with Leigh Griffiths forcing 38-year-old goalkeeper Allan McGregor, the only Scotsman in the Rangers’ starting eleven, to make an excellent save with his fingertip.
Bitton’s rugby tackle at Morelos shortly after the hour mark proved pivotal as the Rangers grew in the game. James Tavernier’s center in the area was somehow overlooked by everyone moments later.
Then in the 70th minute, the Rangers scored the goal they were looking for when Joe Aribo glanced around Tavernier’s corner, over McGregor’s shoulder and passed Vasilis Barkas to the net.
