KEMAMAN (Bernama): The swift action of a father and son managed to save an official whose vehicle was washed away on a flooded road at Kampung Batu 10 near the Chukai Toll Plaza exit on Saturday (December 19).

In the incident, around 12.50 p.m. M., Ausdi Muhamed, 53, and their son Amir Syafiq, 28, were at their home when they received a phone call from a villager informing them that a car had been washed away by flooding in the area.

“He asked me to bring my boat as the driver of the car was believed to be still in the vehicle. My son and I ran to the place, located 1km from our house, on a tractor.

“Upon arriving at the site, we saw a white Perodua Myvi car floating down the road and my son and I boarded the boat to get to the car.

“At first we planned to break the window to save the driver, but we managed to open the door and immediately helped the man into the boat,” he said.

It was learned that the driver of the Perodua Myvi, who is a medical assistant at Kemaman Hospital in Chukai, was on his way to work from his hometown in Bukit Payong, near Marang.

Ausdi, who works on the Kemaman City Council, said it took him and his son nearly 30 minutes to save the official.

“I am grateful that it was saved. However, the car had to be removed from the area with the help of the Malaysian Civil Defense Force and the Fire and Rescue Department,” he added.

Meanwhile, the head of the Chukai fire and rescue station, Mohd Zailani Abdullah, said the 27-year-old victim left Marang at 10.15 am on Saturday to work the night shift.

“Upon arriving at the scene, the victim tried to cross the flooded road but his car was swept away by strong currents, which caused him to stay stuck in the vehicle for 15 minutes,” he told reporters.

He said the victim was not injured and was taken to the Chukai Police Station to file a report on the incident.

Zailani also advised road users to be cautious and avoid driving on flooded roads to avoid adverse incidents. – Bernama
