PUTRAJAYA, October 24 – Malaysia is expected to secure access to the Covid-19 vaccine supply in the first quarter of next year.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) together with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) in a joint statement said today that priority will be given to leaders of the health and safety sectors, such as doctors, nurses, police, as well as prison and immigration staff. .
“To date, the Ministry of Health has been in contact with eight candidate vaccines that are now in the third phase of clinical trials,” according to a statement issued after the first meeting of the Special Committee to Guarantee Access to Vaccine Supplies, Yesterday.
MOSTI and MOH said the government was also concluding negotiations with COVAX, an international initiative led by the World Health Organization (WHO) and partners to ensure access to Covid-19 vaccines, which has nine Covid-vaccine candidates. 19 under the Global Alliance for Vaccines. and immunization (GAVI).
“The government will provide a financial allocation for the purchase of the vaccine through the Covid-19 Fund of the Ministry of Finance,” the statement said.
According to the statement, the special committee meeting co-chaired by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Adham Baba and Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin also agreed to form four sub-committees in various ministries and agencies in accordance with specific tasks.
The committees are related to the National Vaccination Policy, Selection of Appropriate Vaccines, Logistics Registry, Vaccine Development, Finance and Procurement, as well as Communications related to the acquisition of vaccines.
“The government is committed to obtaining an immediate decision to receive the vaccine, this is to ensure that the country does not miss the opportunity to receive a vaccine that is approved and has been proven to be safe,” the statement said.
The special committee was formed to ensure that the supply of the Covid-19 vaccine is obtained immediately with MOSTI and the Ministry of Health acting as the main committee in planning, implementing and monitoring the general strategy for the supply of the vaccine until that the immunization program is carried out. – Bernama
