PUTRAJAYA: Private vehicle owners with an expired motor vehicle license (LKM) not exceeding three years can renew their road tax without having to undergo an inspection at the Computerized Vehicle Inspection Center (Puspakom), at starting tomorrow.
Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong said the government made the decision after taking into account requests from vehicle owners to relax the rules, as some faced financial restrictions for Puspakom to inspect their vehicles in light of the pandemic. of Covid-19.
According to the records, it said that more than 4.27 million vehicles had their road tax expire for one to three years.
He said that owners of vehicles whose road tax or LKM had expired for less than 36 months can now renew them without Puspakom’s controls.
He announced it after witnessing the signing of a strategic collaboration program involving the Department of Road Transport (JPJ), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and the Department of Skills Development (JPK) here today .
Previously, private vehicles with a 12-month expired LKM had to undergo an inspection at Puspakom before they were allowed to renew the road tax, with the cost of the inspection borne by the owner.
On JPJ’s offer of 70% off citations until September 30, Wee said that many Malaysians still prefer to make payments at counters.
“However, I encourage people to pay online as they can enjoy a 70% discount on citations,” he said.
