PUTRAJAYA All public transport services will resume normal operations on May 4 (Monday) following the government’s decision to gradually restart the economy, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Wee Ka Siong. (pix) said.

He said some guidelines on public transportation services would be implemented to facilitate commuters and to allow related companies to operate.

“All passengers and public transport service personnel are reminded to adhere to the guidelines established by the Ministry of Health from time to time, as the MCO is still in force and has not yet ended,” he said in a communicated today.

As there will be more users of public transport at stations and terminals following Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s announcement about the Conditional MCO, public transport operators are urged to take appropriate precautions, he said.

This will include ensuring that social distancing is practiced, that hand sanitizers are available, and that public toilets, seats, and surfaces that are frequently touched are disinfected regularly.

“Follow the safe distancing guidelines of at least one meter and use contactless payment whenever possible,” he said, adding that travelers must comply with any additional regulations established by public transportation operators.

“Passengers and public transportation employees are encouraged to wear face masks and hand sanitizers before and after using public transportation,” he said.

Wee also reminded people who have a higher body temperature not to use public transportation and to immediately have a checkup at the nearest health clinic.

Wee said the Ministry of Transportation and its agencies will improve sanitary inspection at public transportation stations.

He said that health and safety guidelines for public transport services could also be adopted for workers in the logistics sector.

Ground sector operations involving the transfer of goods between terminals are encouraged to transport cargo by rail as much as possible, rather than using road transport, he added.

“Vehicles like trucks must be cleaned and disinfected regularly and drivers must also practice safe distancing at work,” he said.

Wee also reported that cruise operations are not allowed. – Bernama
