PUTRAJAYA: Public officials are encouraged to report any misconduct that occurs in ministries, departments, or agencies in an effort to prevent leakages, especially abuse of power among staff at various levels, regardless of their positions.
The Director General of the Department of Public Services (PSD), Tan Sri Mohd Khairul Adib Abd Rahman (pix) said the government sees serious malpractices involving public officials.
“There are several channels for whistleblowers to relay information to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) or the Integrity Unit in each ministry, department or agency.
“Please be assured that your identity and the information provided to the authorities will be kept confidential and the security of the informant will be protected in accordance with existing regulations as provided for in the 2009 Witness Protection Act and the Witness Protection Act 2010, “he said in a press statement here today.
Mohd Khairul Adib said that all public officials are subject to the Public Officials (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993 and that if they violate any rules, including failure to report officials’ misconduct, disciplinary action can be taken against they.
Reminding all department heads that this matter should be taken seriously, he congratulated those who had dared to come forward to provide information and help prevent misconduct.
“This shows that they have a very high integrity and that their action must be emulated by other public servants.
“PSD also commends the MACC and other enforcement agencies for their ongoing and proactive action to address and eradicate corrupt practices and, in doing so, helped improve integrity and good governance in the public sector,” he said. – Called
