Pub and nightclub owners could face legal action, license revocation

PUTRAJAYA: Nightclub and pub owners operating illegally during the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) will face severe action, including being charged in court and revoking their operating licenses.

Chief Minister (Security Group) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pix) said that entertainment venues were still banned from operating during RMCO, and those that are still open would violate the directive under the Disease Prevention and Control Act. Infectious of 1988 (Law 342).

“For operators who disobey (the directive), the police can issue subpoenas and compounds, and can even arrest them and take them to court, because they are not only violating the SOP (standard operating procedure), but they are also against the government ban, and it’s wrong under the law, ”he said today at his RMCO press conference here.

Previously, it had reported that of 778 people arrested yesterday for violating the RMCO, 600 had allegedly committed crimes in discos and pubs.

Following the increase in the number of arrests due to such activities, he said that the police had decided to include local authorities in all raids and random checks on entertainment centers, so that operating licenses could be revoked.

“If arrests are made during raids on nightclubs and pubs without the involvement of local authorities, the list of locals involved will be sent to the local authorities concerned.

“The local authorities have the power to close and revoke the licenses of these places,” he said. –Named
