The Proton X50 is probably the most anticipated SUV of the year and is expected to launch very soon. Just two weeks after Proton opened the order books, the car’s marker has revealed that it has received 20,000 bookings. Even before the launch of the SUV, Proton says that reservations have already exceeded expectations.
From the looks of it, there will be a huge backlog of orders for the X50, as Proton aims to sell 4,000 units this year and they are increasing production to 8,000 units by the end of the year.
Commenting on the response, Proton Edar CEO Roslan Abdullah said: “Proton would like to thank all of its customers for the tremendous interest shown in the Proton X50. We are pushing to ensure compliance during the last three months of 2020, while continuing to emphasize product quality. “
Fourth consecutive month of sales growth
Proton posted its fourth consecutive month of positive year-on-year sales growth, selling 11,935 units in September. September sales grew 4.9% compared to August and 12.5% compared to the same month in 2019.
From January to September 2020, Proton has sold 73,607 units, 4.3% more than last year. Proton is now No. 2 in Malaysian car sales with an estimated market share of 21.6%.
The Proton X70 continues to lead the SUV segment and posted its second best month of 2020 with 2,849 units sold. Proton Persona and Proton Exora remain the best-selling models in their class and are expected to be the overall sales winners throughout the year. The Proton Saga remains the most popular model in the lineup with 4,949 units sold in September and is the second highest volume A-segment sedan.
