There’s no question that the newly released Proton X50 is pretty well specified, even starting from the standard base model, and such is the kit’s layout across the four available variants that most bases should be covered. But as with everything else, there’s always room for more, especially if it’s something that will come in handy to have on a daily basis, like a power tailgate.
The automaker is offering this item as an optional accessory and has specified its availability in two revealed accessory packages for the X50. The first is in an Urban package, which groups the electric tailgate assembly with three other elements, in this case an integrated SmartTag reader, a magnetic sun visor and helical PVC floor mats. The package is priced at RM3,500.
The other is called the Utility package, where the power tailgate is bundled with embossed PVC floor mats, a boot tray, and door skid plates. The package is a bit cheaper, at RM3,300.
It is evident from the price of both packages that most of the cost comes from the power liftgate unit, which cannot be purchased independently at the moment. The assembly of the unit, we were informed, will be carried out by the distributor.
Please note that these packages are officially available as an optional extra and are in no way mandatory for all X50 buyers. This has been confirmed to us by Proton itself, so if your SA or reseller claims that the packages are mandatory, you now know that is not the case.
