KUALA LUMPUR (December 11): Proton Holdings Bhd will export the X50 sport utility vehicle as part of its five market introductions to increase its international presence next year.

In a statement, Proton President Datuk Seri Syed Faisal Albar said that the X50 will make its debut in Brunei, while sales operations and completely torn down assembly in Kenya and Pakistan will begin in the coming weeks.

“While local market leadership is one of our goals, it is equally vital for the Proton brand to build its international presence, representing both the company and Malaysia. This was part of the 10-year plan that was designed at the beginning of our strategic partnership with Geely, “he said.

The domestic automaker’s export business has grown 10.6% so far this year despite global restrictions implemented to curb the coronavirus pandemic, he said.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh and Egypt will also host virtual product launches for the current Proton Saga this month. This will be followed by a similar launch in Nepal towards the end of the year.

At 12:35 p.m. M., Shares of Proton’s 50.1% parent company, DRB-Hicom Bhd, fell three sen or 1.39% to RM 2.13, valued at about RM 4.14 billion.
