KUALA LUMPUR: Proton Holdings Bhd is spreading its wings, adding its presence in five countries – Kenya, Pakistan, Brunei, Bangladesh and Egypt – this month.

Proton said its export has grown 10.6% this year despite global restrictions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Up to five market introductions will take place in the coming weeks, one of which will mark the export market debut of the Proton X50, and another two will mark the start of local assembly and sales of Proton vehicles in other markets.” said a statement.

“While local market leadership is one of our goals, it is equally vital for the Proton brand to build an international presence, representing both the company and Malaysia.”

Proton president Syed Faisal Albar said this was part of the 10-year plan devised at the beginning of its strategic partnership with Geely.

“In just a few weeks, we will announce the start of CKD operations and sales in Kenya and Pakistan, as well as the international market debut of the Proton X50 in Brunei,” he added.

Additionally, Bangladesh and Egypt will host virtual product launches for Proton Saga this month.

This will be followed by a similar launch in Nepal as the year draws to a close, Proton said.
