Prosecution to amend two charges against Lim

KUALA LUMPUR: The prosecution will amend two of the four charges against former Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng in his corruption case involving the Penang underwater tunnel project.

Deputy Prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin informed Session Court Judge Azura Alwi that the prosecution would introduce the amendment on October 28 with Lim in attendance.

The next mention date for the case has been set for October 28.

Lim, 60, was excused from the proceedings yesterday because he had to attend the Penang State Assembly session.

Azura also allowed Wan Shaharuddin’s request for trial dates to be decided on the same day.

Lim was represented by attorney Gobind Singh Deo.

On August 7, the DAP legislator sued in a Kuala Lumpur Session Court on a charge for requesting gratuity to help a company secure the Penang Submarine Tunnel project.

He was accused of soliciting 10% of the profits from Datuk Zarul Ahmad Mohd Zulkifli, director of Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd, as a bribe to obtain the project contract.

Lim is alleged to have committed the crime near The Gardens Hotel in Lingkaran Syed Putra, Mid Valley City here in March 2011.

On August 10, he was indicted for a second time in Butterworth Sessions Court for corruption in the amount of RM3.3 thousand, as an incentive to help Zarul Ahmad’s company secure the RM6-valued underwater tunnel project. 3mil.

On September 11, the Bagan MP was again indicted on two counts of causing two parcels of land belonging to the Penang government worth RM208.8 thousand to be handed over to two companies, which are linked to the state’s underwater tunnel project.

He is alleged to have committed the crimes at Penang Land and Mines Bureau, Level 21, Komtar, on February 17, 2015 and March 22, 2017.
