PETALING JAYA: The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) will launch an investigation into the helicopter crash in Port Klang this morning that left both people on board injured.

In a statement, CAAM CEO Chester Voo confirmed that a Robinson R66 helicopter had crashed near Pulau Indah, Port Klang, between 9.45am and 10am.

“The helicopter, operated by My Heli Club, left Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang at 9.05 am and was operating over Pulau Indah airspace since 9.21 am. The pilot reported that the operation was normal at 9.45am and the Kuala Lumpur Air Traffic Control Center did not receive any emergency calls after that.

However, Voo said that upon receiving notification of the accident, CAAM activated the Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Center.

The pilot, identified as Shamsul Kamal Ahmad, suffered injuries to his left hand while his co-pilot, identified as Anas Ahmad Zubaidi, escaped with minor injuries.

Voo said that the safety investigation will be conducted by the Air Accident Investigation Office of the Malaysian Ministry of Transport in accordance with Part XXVI of the 2016 Civil Aviation Regulations.

There was another helicopter incident involving My Heli Club members in November.

Then, a mid-air collision between two helicopters in Ampang, Selangor, killed two people and injured two others.

The pilot of the crashed helicopter, retired navy commander Mohamed Sabri Baharom, 56, and his passenger, businessman Mohd Irfan Fikri Mohamed Rawi, 41, lost their lives in the incident.

Former MAS Executive Director Ahmad Jauhari Yahya, 66, and his passenger, Tan Chai Eian, 51, were slightly injured.

All four were members of My Heli Club, a private social network for helicopter enthusiasts.
