KUALA LUMPUR: Private health facilities are ready to accommodate Covid-19 patients, as previously stated by the government, Private Healthcare Productivity Nexus (PHPN) President Datuk, Dr. Jacob Thomas, said.

Dr. Jacob said that private hospitals had provided 71 ventilator units to government hospitals nationwide, when cases in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) began to show a decrease, And this matter was confirmed by the Private Hospital Association President of Malaysia (APHM) Datuk Dr. Kuljit Singh in a statement recently.

He said that private healthcare providers had always supported the government in dealing with any healthcare-related situation in the country, even more so when there was an increase in daily cases of Covid-19.

“Additionally, non-Covid-19 patients, such as those requiring dialysis and surgery, were transferred to private hospitals. This was to reduce the risk of infection and, at the same time, increase the capacity of wards and beds in government hospitals, ”he said in a statement.

Health Minister Datuk Seri, Dr. Adham Baba, said in a statement on January 28 that engaging private hospitals to manage Covid-19 patients was one of the steps taken by the ministry to address the growing number. of cases.

Meanwhile, Dr. Jacob said that among the measures taken by PHPN to help the government were providing screening centers and testing with swabs to foreign workers in private hospitals and so far 130 private facilities have established Covid screening centers. 19.

“PHPN also acted quickly when the country was hit by the pandemic by creating the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to encourage private sector participation and improve the quality of health services provided by the government,” he said.

He said these initiatives were aimed at helping reduce hospital congestion caused by Covid-19 patients who are now beginning to flood government healthcare facilities.

He said that with a systematic and holistic approach to change, private hospitals could make optimal use of resources such as equipment, technology, expertise and healthcare personnel.

“All of this will contribute to increased productivity in government hospitals where front-line workers are in a challenging situation and face physical and mental stress,” he said.
