Ministers will have to use private flights and stay away from public engagements before they can escape the 10-day quarantine, says Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah.

PUTRAJAYA: Only ministers who take private flights and do not make public appearances will be able to undergo observation for three days as stipulated by a new rule, clarified the director general of health, Noor Hisham Abdullah.

At a press conference today, he said those who use regular commercial flights will have to self-quarantine like everyone else.

“They will have to stick to the procedures and only then are they given approval.

“Before they go, they (the ministers) will have to present it to the Cabinet,” he said of the new rule that allows ministers to bypass the 10-day quarantine.

Once they are given the green light, the Ministry of Health will review the SOPs and review your travel itinerary.

If they don’t comply with the SOPs, the ministers will have to be quarantined for 10 days, Noor Hisham added.

He also explained that the ministers will be subjected to surveillance until they can be discharged without imposing any danger on the public.

Yesterday, a government bulletin revealed that ministers are only required to undergo a three-day observation upon returning from their official business abroad.

When asked about a Covid-19 reinfection case as reported in Singapore, Noor Hisham said it could be due to a different strain as more studies are being conducted on it.

Speaking about the travel bubble, he said Malaysia had already started talks with New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Brunei and Korea.

He added that there is also a “green bubble” for one-day trading purposes, but that it is subject to strict standard operating procedures.

“For example, an expert in factory machinery repair entering the country will be escorted from the airport and taken directly to the factory. Don’t mix with others, ”said Noor Hisham.
