PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin thanked all the MPs who voted today to approve the 2021 budget and said they recognized the importance of implementing programs to combat the Covid-19 pandemic and improve the lives of people, especially those of the groups B40 and M40.

In a Facebook post today, he said that MPs who voted for the budget had supported the royal council of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, who had previously urged all MPs to approve the annual budget in light of the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. .

He also thanked all the parliamentarians from Perikatan Nasional, Barisan Nasional, GPS and PBS who had supported the budget since its political stage.

“I hope that MPs can continue to provide the best services to the rakyat and the country.”

He also said that the strong support for the budget had shown that the decisions made by the PN government took into account the welfare, safety and well-being of the rakyat, as well as the economic recovery of the country.

“I would like once again to congratulate Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz, who worked hard to prepare the budget from the previous stages until it was approved today.”

The government had faced the threat of failing to pass the budget due to its slim majority in Dewan Rakyat.

Yesterday, former Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad and Umno’s stalwart Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah had held a press conference to urge MPs to go beyond party lines in their vote for the budget and hinted that the PN would fall today. .

The budget narrowly passed with 111 yes, 108 no and one abstention today.

Tengku Razaleigh abstained while two of the 222 MPs have died: Liew Vui Keong (Warisan-Batu Sapi) and Hasbullah Osman (BN-Gerik).

The approval of the budget has demonstrated the majority support of Muhyiddin in the House and he will continue to lead the government.
