PETALING JAYA: The government will allocate RM7bil in cash aid under Bantuan Prihatin Nasional (BPN) 2.0, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The prime minister said that RM 1,000 would be given to each of 3.7 million families in the B40 category, RM 500 to each 3.8 million singles in the B40 group, RM 600 to each 1.4 million M40 families and RM 300 to 1.7 million singles each in the M40 group.
Payments would be made in two lots: one in late October this year and another in January next year.
B40 families will receive RM700 each in October and RM300 each in January.
“It will not be necessary to apply for BPN 2.0. The government will channel the aid directly to the 10.6 million recipients that have been previously approved.
“Those who are eligible but never received the BPN, the government will give them the opportunity to appeal and make new applications.
“I hope that with this additional help, you can breathe a sigh of relief in meeting the daily expenses of yourself and your entire family,” he said in a special speech on Wednesday (September 23) to announce various initiatives under a new ‘Kita Package of Prihatin stimulus worth RM10bil.
Muhyiddin said that the government had previously spent RM11.2bil on BPN.
Muhyiddin also said that financial institutions had discussed with more than 1.4 million borrowers about the extension of the specific moratorium, and more than 380,000 of them said they needed the assistance.
He said that 98% of requests for extensions were approved.
“The Government will continue to monitor the latest developments and ensure that banking institutions play a role in helping people and businesses that really need it to face this challenging period,” he said.
Since the moratorium period will end in September, he also urged those who have not requested an extension to immediately contact their respective banks.
