Muhammad Faiz Na’aman says that PPBM and PAS just want to work with Umno to unite the ‘ummah’.

PETALING JAYA: A member of the Supreme Council of PPBM responded to Umno’s ‘hypocrisy’ after several of its leaders pointed their weapons against his party and Perikatan Nasional (PN) during the last days.

Muhammad Faiz Na’aman said that PPBM, as well as PAS, his partner in PN, had offered to work together to unite the “ummah” and end the government of Pakatan Harapan (PH).

“But this has been responded to with arrogance, accusations and threats by the party that had already been rejected by the people in the last general elections (GE14),” he said today in a statement.

He said he was not surprised that some Umno leaders said they would not work with PPBM in the next general election, adding that people can judge for themselves the hypocrisy and political drama that Umno represents.

“From the controversial statutory declarations supporting Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister, to the revelation that they did not want to register Muafakat Nasional (MN), people can see the hypocrisy of Umno,” he added.

Faiz, however, praised Barisan Nasional (BN) General Secretary Annuar Musa, Umno Vice President Ismail Sabri Yaakob, and Arau MP Shahidan Kassim, saying they were the few men from Umno who were rational and that prioritized unity.

Several prominent Umno leaders have called on the party to withdraw its support for the PN government. This followed several divisions of Umno, which held their annual general meeting over the weekend, saying that the rank and file supports such a move.

Former Prime Minister Najib Razak said Umno cannot get used to his supporting role in the current administration as he would slowly end the party, while Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah urged MPs to back down from their support. to the PN if the former do not call early elections. quarter of this year.

Machang MP Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub also said he was willing to resign as chairman of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board if the PN does not dissolve Parliament by the end of January.

Meanwhile, the Pagoh division of Umno had unanimously passed a resolution objecting to the decision of the Johor Umno leadership that the party give place to the chairman of the PPBM, Muhyiddin Yassin, in the parliamentary seat in GE15.

Pulai Umno also became the first division in the country to pass a resolution calling on party leaders to immediately resign from the NP government to force a general election.

Meanwhile, in Sabah, another member of the PPBM Supreme Council has threatened to file a police report over allegations that his party was trying to “steal and buy” Umno members.

Abqaree Fawwaz Abekan, who is also a national member of PPBM’s Exco Juvenil, said that the accusations by Umno Youth Chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki were excessive and should not have been made without proper verification.

“We will make a police report and we will not hesitate to bring this matter to justice,” he said in a statement here today.

“He should not have issued an indictment (but) instead found a formula to strengthen relations (between Umno and PPBM) and not further cloud the situation.”

Asyraf had urged PPBM last week to stop all attempts to “steal and buy” its members, following claims by its bases that between RM100 and RM5,000 were offered for people to swap matches.

Abqaree, who is the head of the Sepanggar PPBM youth, also criticized the head of the Sabah Umno Youth, Abdul Aziz Julkarnain, for backing Asyraf and for claiming that PPBM had attracted almost all Umno members of the state to to join the party.

He said that when Umno was in opposition in 2018 and 2019, many of its members left the party of their own free will and joined parties in Pakatan Harapan.

“Therefore, it is not fair for Umno to accuse PPBM of robbing its members,” he said, adding: “even if there were members who joined PPBM at that time, Umno cannot blame us because it was their choice.”

“But it would be different now after the understanding reached between the parties.”
