PETALING JAYA: Hamzah Zainudin Calls Himself And His Fellow Party Leaders People Who “Made Sacrifices To Save The Country” And Proposes A Grand Coalition To Officially Unite Perikatan National (PN), Barisan Nasional (BN) And Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
The PPBM secretary general said today that this would ensure the continuation of the informal consensus that the parties had reached when they took over Putrajaya after the resignation of Dr. Mahathir Mohamad in February.
“Therefore, a Letter of Political Understanding between these three major party coalitions must be carried out immediately,” he said in a statement.
With the signing of this letter, Hamzah said, the rakyat will have more confidence as there will be political stability and the country will continue to govern itself through policies that defend them.
“As an inclusive coalition, all party leaders joining it should have the same space and opportunity to express their opinions and points of view.
“Taking into account the wishes of all parties, no matter how big or small, regardless of the race, ethnicity and religion they represent, this idea will be able to produce a manifesto that truly meets the needs of all levels of Malaysians.” the Larut MP said.
Hamzah also spoke about how the ruling PN and various parties in the peninsula and Sabah and Sarawak had to intervene to “save” the country for the Bumiputeras when, he claimed, it faced a political and racial crisis under Pakatan Harapan.
“In reality, the PN was born at a time when the country was facing a growing political and racial crisis. The need to form a new government arose because the rakyat were unhappy with some policies and actions of the PH government, ”he said.
For the plans to be successful, he said, some parliamentarians had to make sacrifices by joining the new coalition.
“Therefore, there is no question whether they are traitors or thorns in the flesh of whatever party they ever represented. What is more important is that the objective of overthrowing PH and forming a new government was achieved ”.
The interior minister further said that the 22-month PH saw the coalition fail to deliver on manifesto promises, with disputes over Malaysian special rights, a weakened economy and trouble on a wide range of issues affecting to the rakyat and to the country.
Because of this, he said, the current governing coalition was established as a result of an understanding between PPBM Chairman Muhyiddin Yassin, Umno Chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and PAS Chairman Abdul Hadi Awang after the surprise Mahathir resigns as prime minister on February 23.
He further said that the coalition was fully supported by the presidents of GPS, STAR and PBS.
“All party leaders unanimously agreed to endorse the PPBM chairman as the new prime minister and it was approved by Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” he said.
As a result, several discussions were held between deputies representing political parties who shared the same aspiration to formulate strategies and save the country.
He also said that to ensure continuity, the position of state governments was also taken into account.
“Political cooperation was not forged on the basis of the party with the largest number of assembly members, but also on the basis of mutual agreement between all parties involved.”
He explained that the positions of prime minister and mentoring should be decided by consensus to maintain strong political cooperation. Quoting Perak, he said that the kissing mentoring position was under PPBM prior to the formation of PN.
In Johor, he said, it was agreed that the position would be handed over to Umno even though it originally belonged to PPBM.
“This brings the total number of states headed by Umno representatives to four states, including Melaka, Perlis and Pahang.”
As for PAS, Hamzah said, an agreement was reached where the Islamist party would lead Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah, while GPS would lead Sarawak.
