KUALA LUMPUR: A politician and his wife were indicted in Ampang Magistrates Court here for trafficking dangerous drugs and planting cannabis in their home.
However, no guilty pleas were recorded for Adam Asmuni, 35, of PPBM and Lyiana Roslee, 34, after the charges were read before Magistrate Normaizan Rahim, as the case, which involves the penalty death, is under the jurisdiction of the Superior Court. .
In the first and second counts, the businessman and his wife were jointly charged under Section 39 (B) (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1952 with trafficking 1.58 kg of cannabis and 7.87 liters of the same drug in a house in Duta. Residensi, Ampang, here at 7.30 pm on January 20.
The couple were also charged with growing nine plants, believed to be cannabis, in the same place, date and time.
The charge, framed in Section 6B (1) (a) of the same law, establishes life imprisonment and spanking, upon being found guilty.
Deputy Prosecutor Suriantiazila Muhamad was prosecuted, while lawyer Nur Mustanir Md Nor represented Lyiana. Adam was not represented. Adam was a candidate for the PPBM elections in the 2018 general elections and is the leader of the party’s youth wing, Armada.
The court set the citation for March 17.
Earlier in another court, before Judge Farah Nasihah Anuar, Lyiana received a discharge that does not amount to an acquittal (DNAA) on similar charges, which were read to her on February 1. Then she was charged again with her husband before Normaizan.
