Possible extension of Selangor CMCO if cases increase

Health Director General Noor Hisham Abdullah says the increase has been steady.

PETALING JAYA: Chief Health Officer Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah says the ministry may propose an extension of the conditional motion control order (CMCO) for Selangor if Covid-19 cases in the state continue to rise.

“If we look at the data, it’s constantly increasing, so we will see, if there is an increase, we can propose (an extension).

“If suddenly there is no increase in a week, then maybe we don’t need it,” he said, adding that the ministry was monitoring the situation.

But, he said, what was clear now was that cases in Selangor were increasing.

Today, Selangor registered 76 new cases and a new cluster.

On the Ministry of Health’s preparation for the third wave of infections, Noor Hisham said the situation is challenging, but that they were better prepared than with the first wave.

So far, he said, there was no shortage of beds, medicines and personal protective equipment (PPE).

In the case of Sabah, the worst-hit state, Noor Hisham said the government has allowed the Sabah Health Department to get what it needs in an emergency. “If necessary, if they need PPE or ventilators, they can buy them.”

Noor Hisham also said that the Public Utilities Commission has given the green light for the appointment of 1,223 contract medical personnel, including 624 nurses and 336 medical assistants, among others.

On the other hand, Noor Hisham said the ministry was investigating the treatment of low-risk patients at home.

At present, he said, there was sufficient capacity in hospitals and makeshift hospitals to treat low-risk patients. “The use is only 30%. But we are discussing this option ”.

Sabah State Minister Masidi Manjun recently said that the state health department was advising Covid-19 patients with “manageable” symptoms to stay home and receive treatment there.

Noor Hisham clarified that the advice to patients to stay at home was referring to those who were waiting for their screening results, because it could be several days before their test results were returned.
