Porto will refuse to sell Alex Telles if Manchester United do not reach the asking price this week, according to reports.
United accepted the need to sign a new left-back following their loss to Crystal Palace in their first Premier League game and have accelerated their transfer plans ahead of the October 5 deadline.
MEN Sport understands that Telles has been monitored by the club and there could be some movement before the deadline, and Porto is unlikely to demand his £ 36 million full release clause given there is less than a year left on his current contract.
Portuguese media O Jogo reports that Porto is demanding 20 million euros for the defender, but United is only willing to offer 15 million euros. The same report adds that the Liga NOS team won’t wait much longer for an acceptable offer and could refuse to sell Telles if they don’t have enough time to sign a replacement.
The Portuguese transfer window closes on October 6 and reports suggest that United could miss out if it plans to wait until the last minute before increasing its offer for the 27-year-old.
On the other hand, reports say that Brighton wants to sign Daniel James on loan this summer.
James came to United from Swansea last summer but has struggled to break into the starting XI after the appearance of Mason Greenwood.
Reports claim Leeds is interested in the Wales international and Brighton is also joining the race for his signing, according to The Athletic.
Graham Potter worked with James during his time with the Swans and is believed to be interested in a reunion.
MEN Sport understands that United have no interest in allowing James to leave.
