KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Police will intensify controls and closely monitor compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) in public areas following an increase in COVID-19 cases, says Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) said that police found that some Malaysians were complacent and did not care to adhere to SOPs to curb the spread of Covid-19.

He said severe action will be taken against people who violate the guidelines.

“Given the increase in Covid-19 cases, the police would like to remind Malaysians to always be self-disciplined and follow established SOPs.

“Along with the holidays and festivities at the end of the year, many have taken the opportunity to visit their places of origin, travel and organize events and social gatherings,” he said on Monday (December 28).

Abdul Hamid said that it was undeniable that such activities would create a situation where crowds would gather in large numbers.

He reminded Malaysians to practice the new rules and avoid 3Cs (crowds, tight spaces, and close conversations) in their daily activities to slow the spread of the virus.

“Let’s work together to break the chain and flatten the curve for Covid-19 infections in Malaysia,” he said. – Bernama
