SUNGAI BULOH: Four men who are believed to have been involved in a robbery at a house in Rawang near here yesterday were shot and killed by police while trying to escape.

Selangor Acting Police Chief Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed said that in the 1 p.m. incident, a police team that received the information about the theft spotted a suspicious-looking Perodua Axia car and started following it to a road near the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

The police ordered them to stop the car, but they refused and drove to Jalan Kuala Selangor.

“The policemen chased him and when they caught up with him, the suspect’s car collided with a GrabFood motorcyclist and dragged her a few meters.

“After colliding with the driver, the car couldn’t move forward. The driver tried to ram the cyclist again, prompting the police to fire several shots at the suspect’s car to save the victim, “he told reporters at the scene.

Arjunaidi said one of the suspects got out of the car armed with a machete and the police had to fire a few more shots killing all the suspects at the scene.

Checks revealed that all the suspects, in their 20s, were members of a gang of masked robbers that the police had been searching for.

“We believe that all of the suspects had been involved in more than 50 robberies in Selangor since the beginning of this year and two of them had criminal records.

“Inside the car, the police found several machetes, jewelry, cash, some helmets and black clothing that are believed to have been used by the suspects to carry out a robbery,” he said, adding that the case was being investigated under the Section 307 of the Penal Code.

When asked about the GrabFood user’s condition, Arjunaidi said that the victim suffered injuries to various parts of his body and was taken to Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment. – Bernama
