Police sergeant demands trial for receiving bribe from RM3k

KOTA KINABALU: A police sergeant was charged in Session Court here on Wednesday (December 16) of receiving a RM3,000 bribe from a suspect involved in a robbery case in February.

Nora Alun, 42, pleaded not guilty before Judge Abu Bakar Manat to two charges related to bribery under the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.

She is accused of having agreed to receive RM3,000 from Mohd Saiful Jamil as an incentive not to continue investigations involving him in a robbery case under article 380 of the Penal Code.

Nora is also charged with receiving the money at the Kota Kinabalu District Criminal Investigations Department (CID) office on February 17.

She is accused of having committed the first charge at Restoran Taufik in Inanam, near here.

If convicted of the crimes under Section 17 (a) of the Act, Nora faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in jail or a fine of not less than five times the amount or 10,000 ringgit.

The MACC was represented by Clementine Severinus. while Nor was represented by Zahir Shah.

Nora was allowed a bail of 10,000 ringgit with a guarantee and has to report to the SPRM office once every two months, and her passport must be handed over to the court.

The court set January 19 for case management.
