Police search for man after receiving death threats and sending bullets to customs officer

KUCHING (November 27): Police urge members of the public to submit any information about an individual identified as Yong King Ling, 35, from Taman Rejang Park, Sibu, to assist in an ongoing investigation.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail said in a statement that the police are looking for Yong to help in a criminal intimidation case against a senior customs official at his home in Jalan Matang.

“The superior customs officer received a brown envelope containing two bullets and a note that said ‘I have 2 bullets, one long and one short which one do you want’ at his home around 12 noon yesterday (November 26),” he said. Aidi in a statement today. .

The customs officer then filed a police report at the Gita Police Station which led to the arrest of three male suspects aged between 35 and 39 by the D9 unit of the Sarawak Police on the same day.

“The reason for the act is believed to be caused by a special operation that was led by the customs official earlier this month,” Aidi said.

He added that the suspects are currently in custody until December 1 to help with the investigation.

A background check on the suspects, he said, also showed that two of them have criminal records for drug offenses.

Meanwhile, any information about Yong can be relayed to Investigative Officer Insp Ramle Husin at 013-8968963 or by contacting the nearest police station.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation via anonymous communication.

If convicted, the defendant is punished with a prison term of seven years.
