MACC says the police inspector is believed to have promised the girl RM3,000 to set up a trap for another officer.

ALOR SETAR: A Penang-based police inspector has been in custody for four days for investigations of a case involving an alleged sexual relationship between another officer and a 16-year-old girl.

The director of the Kedah Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Shaharom Nizam Abd Manap, said the inspector was under investigation for abusing his office for personal gain.

He said the act was suspected of being committed by the 33-year-old to tarnish the reputation of another police officer, also with the rank of inspector, on proximity charges.

“The suspect, along with another police officer and a civilian, is believed to be involved in this case by conspiring with a 16-year-old girl to catch the officer.

“The suspect asked the girl to help him lure the officer to a hotel room in George Town, Penang. When they were together in the room, the suspect informed the religious office to carry out a raid, ”he said today in a statement.

Shaharom Nizam said the suspect was believed to have promised the girl RM3,000 and would not take action against the girl, who had previously been arrested in connection with ecstasy pills.

It said the suspect was arrested at the MACC office Tuesday night and that the case was being investigated under Section 16 (b) (A) of the MACC Act of 2009.

Meanwhile, the alleged accomplices, an inspector and the civilian, aged 30 and 32, who had also been detained by the MACC, were released on bail. They were detained yesterday and today separately.
