KUALA LUMPUR: Nothing that seems is out of the reach of scammers, as this time they are offering the sale of Covid-19 vaccines.
The director of the federal police’s commercial crime investigations department (CCID), Commissioner Datuk Zainuddin Yaacob, said today that police identified a message on social media offering to sell the vaccine online.
However, he said the website administrator had issued a statement denying such a sale of the vaccine was being offered.
“As the government announced, immunization is being carried out free of charge for Malaysians. As such, the sale of the vaccine by any party is irresponsible and possibly a scam. We will track and take action on those who advertise the sale of the vaccine in cyberspace … ”, he said.
Zainuddin said that to date, two cases related to the Covid-19 vaccine scam involving losses of more than RM285,000 have been reported to police.
He urged the public to be cautious of such online advertisements and constantly keep up to date on announcements made by the government.
