Police crack down on union, confiscate RM1.2 million worth of alcohol and illicit cigarettes

PETALING JAYA: Police arrested an alcohol distribution syndicate in the Klang Valley, seizing more than RM1.2 million worth of cases of alcoholic beverages and illicit cigarettes.

Bukit Aman Department of Homeland Security and Public Order Deputy Director Fisol Salleh said that four Malaysians and two Indonesian men between the ages of 19 and 40 were arrested in the operation.

“2,522 cartons of beer, 1,082 cases of liquor and 49 cartons of illicit cigarettes were seized.

“A sword, two containers and four cars were also seized, which included a Toyota Alphard, a Ford Ranger, a Perodua Axia and a Proton Persona. The estimated sum of the seized items is RM1,852,450, “it said in a statement today.

The union was dismantled after public notices.

The six suspects will be in preventive detention for seven days until October 12 according to Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code for future investigations. A suspect has a criminal record.

The case will be investigated under Section 135 (1) (d) of the Customs Act of 1967, Section 6 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act of 1959/63 and Section 6 (1) of Substances Corrosive and Explosive and Offensive Weapons. Act of 1958.
