KUALA LUMPURThe latest suspect wanted by police for the murder of a retired director of the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) on Sunday was arrested today.
Brickfields, ACP Police Chief Anuar Omar said the captured man was one of the top four suspects wanted by police.
He said the other 14 suspects who were arrested since the robbery with murder of former Mardi director Dr. Wan Hassan Wan Embong, 73, in Bukit Bandaraya, Bangsar, had their pre-trial detention order extended six days from from today.
Police had carried out several raids in the Klang Valley in search of four robbers responsible for Wan Hassan’s murder and also for another robbery case involving an engineer and his family in Titiwangsa.
With the latest arrest, the police have in their custody all the suspects believed to be involved and are confident of solving the case.
On Sunday, Wan Hassan, who was cut in the face and neck with a sharp weapon, died in his two-story bungalow after being attacked by two armed robbers who had broken in earlier.
Wan Hassan and his wife had left their room to drink water when they encountered the thieves.
Wan Hassan stood up to them and resisted when they demanded cash and valuables while his wife, Sarifah Yusof, 70, a retired public school teacher, managed to hide in a room.
The robbers cut her right hand and sent her to hospital for treatment.
The thieves grabbed some valuables and escaped through a window in the house’s kitchen.
An hour later, they hit the engineer’s house, but they did not hurt him or his relatives.
