KUALA LUMPUR: Nearly a whopping RM2.5 thousand in cash was seized from a raid on a house used by a prostitution union here.

Police also detained 14 Chinese nationals, including 11 men and three women, along with a local man and woman.

Acting as a tip off, a team from Bukit Aman’s (D7) Anti-Vice, Gambling and Secret Societies Division, led by Senior Assistant Director, Senior Deputy Commissioner Mohd Zani Che Din raided a condo unit in Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, Kajang about 2 pm on Saturday (October 17).

Bukit Aman CID Director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed said seven Chinese men and one Chinese woman between the ages of 22 and 28 were detained.

“We also seized two laptops, 15 mobile phones and two worksheets.

“We believe the unit was used as a call center for customers in China,” he told reporters at the scene on Saturday, adding that the union may have also operated scams.

A further investigation led police to a home in Cheras a few hours later, Comm Huzir said.

“We discovered cash close to RM2.5mil stored in various luggage bags in the rooms.

“We believe that the money could have been used for money laundering activities, but we will investigate further,” he said.

Six Chinese nationals consisting of four men and two women were detained, along with two locals during the raid, it added.

“Three laptops and four mobile phones, as well as drugs, were among other items seized from the house.

“We also discovered various applications for cryptocurrencies on the seized laptops,” Comm Huzir said.

Initial investigations revealed that the union has been operating for about two months, he added.

“The union is targeting clients in China for their prostitution services, as well as some scams. We will find out the breadth of this union,” he said.

Comm Huzir said the two detained villagers acted as union coordinators.

“We believe they were tasked with finding premises for call centers, accommodation for union members or those in charge of logistics,” he said.
