PUTRAJAYA: Police can now issue compounds on the spot against those caught violating Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs), says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said the Attorney General has allowed the police to do so, adding that the compounds can be issued by an officer with the rank of inspector or higher.

“Before this, offenders had to be taken to the police station to be issued an enclosure, now the police can only issue them at the place where the crime is committed, such as at checkpoints,” he said on Wednesday (October 7) .

Ismail Sabri said 357 people were arrested by the task force monitoring compliance with SOPs on Tuesday (Oct 6), adding that five were arrested for leaving an improved motion control area without permission, while another five they were detained for quarantine violations.

It also said that the police detained 167 people for failing to wear masks in crowded public areas and also for failing to provide valid travel documents (23).

In Ops Benteng, Ismail Sabri said 38 illegal immigrants were arrested along with two tekongs and four human traffickers.
