KEPALA BATAS: Police arrested a 25-year-old Pakistani man who allegedly sexually harassed a 14-year-old girl in Taman Seri Indah here.

North Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the man was taken into custody on Friday (October 16), after the victim’s father and neighbors captured him around 4.30pm.

“The suspect was selling ice cream in the neighborhood and allegedly sexually harassed the victim while selling her ice cream,” he said in a statement on Saturday (October 17).

In the incident that occurred on Thursday night (October 15), the victim and her six-year-old sister went to buy ice cream from the suspect, who was traveling by motorcycle.

ACP Noorzainy said the suspect was accused of touching the 14-year-old girl’s shoulder while choosing her ice cream.

“When the victim wanted to pay for the ice cream, the suspect took the victim’s hand and wanted to kiss her,” he added.

He then added that the victim ran home with her sister and locked the front door of the house, fearing for her safety.

ACP Noorzainy said that according to the victim, the suspect remained in front of the victim’s house, where he showed him the money and asked him to leave, adding that the victim was afraid and told his mother about the incident.

He also said that the only witness to the incident was the victim’s sister, who could not account for what happened.

ACP Noorzainy said the suspect returned the next day, which is when the victim saw him again and told his father.

He said the suspect was captured by the girls’ father with the help of neighbors, adding that a later police check found that the suspect does not have valid travel documents.

A video of the suspect arrested by the public and beaten by the victim’s father has gone viral on social media.

In the video, ACP Noorzainy urged the public not to share the video, as the suspect has been detained by the police. Since then he has been in pretrial detention for four days and the case is being investigated under Section 14 of the Sexual Offenses Against Children Act of 2017 and Section 6 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act of 1959.
