KUALA LUMPUR: An Indonesian man and his son have been arrested in Lahad Datu for insulting the Indonesian national anthem and the Negaraku.

Federal Director of the CID Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed (Photo) It said the man in his 40s was arrested along with his son by police in Lahad Datu on December 28.

“The police can verify that a report was received against the owners of the YouTube accounts of the channels” My Asean “and” ASEAN CHANNEL ID “for insulting the Indonesian national anthem and Negaraku.

“Videos from both accounts were removed, but uploaded to various social media applications, generating negative reactions in both countries,” he said on Saturday (January 2).

He said the Bukit Aman CID Special Investigations Unit was conducting investigations for sedition and for sharing offensive and threatening content.

“In addition to the two arrests in Lahad Datu, cooperation between the police here and our counterparts in Indonesia led to the arrest of an Indonesian student at around 8 pm on December 31 at a home in Cianjur, West Java, Indonesia.

“The student is believed to have participated in the creation of the altered handwriting video,” he said, adding that a mobile phone, SIM card and computer believed to have been used to edit and disseminate the video were seized.

He said the identity of the suspect has not yet been released.

“We urge the public to be smart users of social media and not use these platforms to cause anxiety and threaten national harmony.

“Severe measures can be taken without compromise against any individual who intentionally tries to create an inharmonious situation that could lead to tensions and provocations between the two countries,” he said.
