KUALA LUMPUR: In a show of support for your newest member, the leaders of various Perikatan Nasional (PN) parties joined the highest echelon of Gerakan in their virtual Chinese New Year celebrations.

The main guest was PPBM President and Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and his wife Noorainee Abdul Rahman. The others who joined the members of Gerakan’s central committee, the women’s and youth wings led by party chairman Datuk Dr. Dominic Lau, were the top leaders of PAS, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) and the Progressive Party of Sabah (SAPP).

Gerakan was accepted into the PN fold yesterday.

Muhyiddin thanked Gerakan for inviting him to be a part of the event, which he described as very significant despite the fact that it was held virtually to adapt to the new rules at a time when the country is facing the Covid-19 pandemic.

The prime minister and his wife also joined other guests to launch yee sang, a traditional dish synonymous with the Chinese community during the Lunar New Year.

“Gong Xi Fa Cai, Xin Nian Kuai Le and Happy Chinese New Year,” Muhyiddin said.

In his message, Muhyiddin said that the Covid-19 pandemic has posed a great challenge for the government and the people, but Malaysia had the ability to grow again.

He said this could be achieved through the hard work of the country’s leadership and the cooperation provided by the people.

“I believe that the arrival of the New Year will further strengthen the commitment of people, especially the Chinese community, to work harder to achieve success or victory in whatever challenge they face,” he said in a Facebook post.
