BANGI: Unemployed graduates should make the most of the Professional Advancement Program (CAP), also known as Penjana KPT-CAP, to improve their marketability, says Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

“I call upon the 2019 and 2020 graduates who have not been lucky enough to get a job to take this opportunity to increase their skills and competencies and thus improve their marketability,” said Penjana KPT-CAP launching. at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) on Monday (September 28).

He said CAP is different from the usual skills enhancement program, adding that it is unique in that graduates are assured of employment upon completion of the program’s courses.

“The courses are designed to meet the needs and wishes of participating companies who will accept graduates as employees,” he added.

Muhyiddin cited the Smart Trucker course as an example where the course content is tailored to the needs of logistics companies.

“The graduate will be offered a job in the logistics company at the end of the course,” he said.

He said that the government has reserved RM100 thousand for CAP as part of the RM2bil allocated for training and improvement according to the nation’s economic recovery plan.

Muhyiddin also asked the graduates to develop their entrepreneurial skills, as this will help them earn income and also become “job creators”.

In her welcoming address, Datuk Higher Education Minister Dr Noraini Ahmad said that 41,161 graduates had not found a job six months after graduating in 2019.

He added that an estimated 75,000 graduates this year would also face the same situation.

“This would mean that there will be 161,161 graduates who will need attention to improve their marketability,” he said.

As such, he said the Penjana KPT-CAP program will help these graduates find jobs or start their own businesses.

He said that at least 20,000 graduates will benefit from Penjana KPT-CAP.

“To date, a total of 140 programs have been aligned by no less than 100 companies,” he added.

He announced that the ministry has also established a Graduate Referral Center for Employment and Training or GREaT for graduates to apply for the programs.
