PM calls for stricter rules about sports and social activities

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said the proposed new rules will be presented tomorrow.

KUALA LUMPUR: Faster and more effective mitigation or intervention is needed to tackle Covid-19, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said after chairing a special meeting of the National Security Council (MKN) today.

In a Facebook post, Muhyiddin said this followed reports of an increase in the number of positive cases in several districts of Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Perak and Johor, which had turned yellow or red in just one or two. weeks.

He said the special meeting was to discuss actions that should be intensified to curb and manage the pandemic. “I also expressed my concern about the Covid-19 situation in the country, which still shows an increase in the number of positive cases, although it is not a pronounced increase,” he said.

Muhyiddin said that he had instructed MKN to carry out a review of the standard operating procedures for sports and social activities, in order to break the chain of infection. He said procedures had to be adjusted.

The Prime Minister said that the proposed rules will be presented at the MKN meeting tomorrow.

He also expressed hope that the stricter standard operating procedures would be put into effect immediately, as the current rate of infection was quite concerning.

Muhyiddin said he also agreed with the Sabah Disaster Management Committee’s proposal to amend the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) procedures in all localities in the state.

He said the amendment to the SOPs was aimed at helping the people involved to live in a better EMCO situation.

The prime minister also said that among the positive developments reported at the special meeting was the end of the conditional MCO in eight prisons after no new cases were reported for the past 14 days.

“Congratulations to the Department of Prisons and the Ministry of Health for working well together to curb the spread of Covid-19 in prisons,” he added.
