KUALA LUMPUR: Highway customers planning to take a road trip to celebrate Christmas and New Years or “balik kampung” are advised to plan their trips in advance by following the Travel Time Notice issued by PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS).

PLUS Managing Director Datuk Azman Ismail said the TTA was issued for customers traveling on the North-South Highway between December 22, 2020 and January 19, 2021, with the aim of reducing congestion on the traffic on the highway, most notable in important sections, toll plazas and rest areas.

“We strongly encourage the public to follow the TTA schedule closely, as they have a better chance of experiencing a calmer ride and avoiding congestion,” he said in a statement today.

According to the TTA, Klang Valley Expressway customers heading to other destinations such as Perlis, Kedah, Penang, North Perak and Johor are advised to enter the expressway before 9am.

Those heading to destinations closer to the Klang Valley or other states are advised to enter the highway after 12 p.m., while those in Perlis, Kedah, Penang, North Perak, Johor and other states traveling to the Klang valley during the same period are recommended Enter the highway before 9 am.

“PLUS also expects an increase of up to 30 percent in traffic or 1.7 million vehicles on each peak day compared to 1.3 million vehicles on normal days to use all the roads operated by PLUS along with the season festive Christmas and New Years, “Azman said.

He said that PLUS also recommended that its clients adhere to all health and safety procedures throughout their trip by wearing face masks, registering through the MySejahtera app, maintaining physical distancing and practicing good personal hygiene.

Also make sure your vehicles are ready and in good condition before starting your trip, always wear front and rear seat belts, don’t stop in the emergency lane unnecessarily, and obey the speed limit on the highway.
