PKR hoping to get some new seats in Sabah, contest in areas where the party is strong

KOTA KINABALU: PKR hopes to win some of Sabah’s new seats and disputes in areas where the party is considered strong, says PKR Secretary General Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (Photo).

Saifuddin added that this was told to the President of Parti Warisan Sabah, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, during their last meeting held on Sunday (September 6) morning.

He said it made sense for PKR to contest the seats they won in the XIV General Election in the upcoming Sabah snap election.

“PKR Sabah has the second highest membership in the country and areas such as Kota Marudu, Tawau, Pensiangan, Silam and Kota Belud are among the areas that have the highest number of PKR members in the state,” he said.

Saifuddin said it would only make sense if PKR gets more of the pie to compete.

“The discussions are almost over, we just have a few loose ends to tie up. We will leave the rest to Warisan and the other member parties to sort it out, ”he said during PKR’s informational tour here on Sunday.

While he urged members to stand together and help coalition members Pakatan Harapan and Warisan Plus, he said this was the only way they could repeat the victory seen in the XIV General Election.

When asked about a statement by former Prime Minister Tan Sri Chong Kah Kiat that PKR is too obsessed with the post of prime minister, Saifuddin said that the question of obsession does not arise as the party chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim , has been waiting for more than 20 years.

However, he said he does not wish to develop or comment on the matter as there are other pressing matters to attend to, but assured the public that PKR is intact and all is well.

Previously, Anwar advised members at the event to stay informed on related matters before speaking to the public.

He said that every election is different, adding that the hopes and aspirations of audiences will be different.

“You can only participate if you understand the audience, speak to the right points, and let people see hope when they hear us speak,” he said.

“We have to do our homework first, so that we can speak with quality and not just make random speeches that benefit no one,” Anwar said.
