Phil Jones could return to the team

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted that Phil Jones still has a future at the club despite being out of his squad for the Premier League and Champions League.

Jones, who still has three years left on his contract at Old Trafford, has not appeared since January due to injury, but Solskjaer said his omission from teams featured for this season does not mean he will not play for the club again.

“Phil was injured and had surgery,” Solskjaer told a news conference on Friday. “He is working very hard to get back and I hope he gets back in shape in December.

“When you’re injured you can’t get into the team. Now he’s working very diligently to get back on the team.

United will face Arsenal on Sunday in hopes of extending a four-game unbeaten streak following a 6-1 loss to Tottenham.

Solskjaer’s side have beaten Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig and tied with Chelsea in response to the loss to Spurs and Solskajer is satisfied with the reaction of his players to a difficult start to the season.

“I think any result as brutal as 6-1 would have to get a response and of course it has been dealt with internally,” he said.

“We have changed a couple of things, we have put the players in shape and I think that the way to defeat is not something we have to face again.”

“Things happen in football these days and the response has been fantastic, we wanted to end that as soon as possible and move on.”

United will not be able to count on Alex Telles for Arsenal’s visit after he tested positive for coronavirus, but there are no injury concerns following the Champions League win over Leipzig midweek.
