PETALING JAYA: Phase One of the Putrajaya MRT Line (formerly known as the Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya MRT Line) will be completed in July this year and operations will begin in August, Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong said today.

“After taking the train from Sri Damansara Sentral to Kampung Batu, I am very impressed with the level of readiness for the Putrajaya MRT Line Phase One operations,” he said after inspecting the line.

At a press conference today, he said that the main goals of the Putrajaya Line were to provide better accessibility for these densely populated areas, as well as to create a modern, efficient and safe transportation system.

He added that this will directly benefit the people living in those areas as they will see more commercial establishments, higher property values and urban renewal.

Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) said Phase One progress is currently 97%.

“The remaining 3% consists mainly of testing and commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems,” the company said.

He added that the remainder of the Putrajaya MRT line from Kampung Batu to Putrajaya Sentral is scheduled to start operating once Phase Two is completed in January 2023.

The Putrajaya MRT line is the second line of the Klang Valley MRT project. It will have 36 stations, of which 10 are interchanges. The entire alignment is 57.7 km, from Kwasa Damansara to Putrajaya Sentral.

Meanwhile, Wee said the government agreed to go ahead with the construction of the MRT Circle (MRT3) line, which was previously suspended by the government led by Pakatan Harapan (PH).

He added that MRT Corp will be the owner and developer of the project, and expects to launch the project in the second half of the year.

“The government takes immediate infrastructure projects seriously as a way to boost the country’s economy and ensure that people enjoy the benefits of MRT3,” he said.

The project was reinstated under the 2021 budget announced by Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz last November.
